Mint Mobile is giving its customers more data without asking for more money. The carrier announced it is raising monthly data allowances across all of its non-unlimited plans, bumping the entry-level tier from 5GB to 6GB, the middle option from 15GB to 17GB, and the plan sitting just below Unlimited from 20GB to 23GB.
The changes come with no price increases for either existing or new customers. The entry-level 6GB plan averages $15 per month, with the best rates available when purchasing a full year of data upfront. New customers can currently save $15 on any three-month plan, bringing the entry-level tier down to $30 upfront or roughly $10 per month.
HOTSPOT BUMP
The data increases follow an earlier move to boost hotspot allowances for Unlimited users. Mint Mobile doubled the monthly hotspot allocation from 10GB to 20GB, addressing one of the more common complaints among budget-conscious Unlimited customers who need to tether devices occasionally but do not want to pay premium rates for the privilege.
The Unlimited plan itself now includes 20GB of hotspot data per month, placing Mint Mobile competitively against rivals that charge extra for tethering or cap hotspot usage more aggressively.
BUNDLE ANGLE
Mint Mobile is also pushing hardware bundles alongside the plan improvements. The carrier offers deals knocking up to $500 off flagship phones when purchased with a new plan. The Samsung Galaxy S26 drops from $900 to $400, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra comes down from $1,300 to $800. Google devices are similarly discounted: the Pixel 10 drops from $799 to $299, the Pixel 10 Pro goes from $999 to $724, and the Pixel 10 Pro XL drops from $1,199 to $699. Notably, no trade-ins are required for the Pixel 10 deals, lowering the barrier to entry for customers who do not have an old device to swap.
For customers who just want the service, the carrier is offering a full year of unlimited data for $180 upfront, which is half the usual price. That works out to $15 per month, undercutting most postpaid unlimited options from the major carriers by a significant margin.
WHY NOW
The timing is worth noting. Mint Mobile operates in a crowded segment of the prepaid wireless market, competing against Visible, Google Fi, T-Mobile's Metro and Boost, and AT&T's Cricket. Data allotments have become the primary battleground as voice and SMS have become essentially free across the industry. Carriers that can offer more monthly data at the same price point gain a measurable advantage in customer acquisition and retention.
This is not the first time Mint Mobile has adjusted allowances upward. The carrier has historically used data increases as a competitive lever, particularly during periods when rivals are raising prices. The current environment is no exception: several major carriers have implemented price hikes over the past year, creating an opening for budget-focused brands to position themselves as the value alternative.
The decision to increase both the capped plans and the hotspot allowance suggests Mint Mobile is trying to close the gap between its Unlimited tier and the next-best option. A customer on the 23GB plan now gets more data than before, but still pays significantly less than the Unlimited rate, potentially making that tier more attractive to users who do not need truly unlimited access.
WHO THIS BENEFITS
The plan changes are straightforward for most use cases. The entry-level 6GB tier is adequate for light smartphone users who primarily browse, stream music, and use messaging apps. The 17GB middle tier covers moderate streaming and occasional video calling. The 23GB top tier is where power users start to get comfortable, though true heavy streamers and those who regularly tether laptops will still gravitate toward the Unlimited option.
The hotspot expansion is the more interesting shift. Doubling to 20GB means a single Unlimited subscriber could comfortably use 5GB per week for tethering without hitting a cap, making the plan more viable as a primary internet connection for remote work or travel. This is a meaningful upgrade for a segment of users who previously had to weigh whether the Unlimited price was worth it given the restrictive hotspot limit.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Mint Mobile is betting that more data for the same money is the simplest message in a market where carrier pricing has become increasingly complex. With no trade-in requirements on the Pixel deals, a clear annual pricing path, and now more generous data caps, the carrier is positioning itself as the straightforward choice for customers tired of navigating confusing tier structures and hidden fees.
For now, the value proposition is clear: same price, more data, and a path to cheap flagship hardware if needed. The question is whether rivals will respond with their own increases or double down on other differentiators like network coverage and customer service.
