APPLE'S FALL LINEUP - IPHONE 18 FLAGSHIPS, NEW WATCHES & MACS
Apple is skipping the base model iPhone 18 until 2027, leaning only on its ultra-premium tier this fall.

Apple has a packed lineup of product launches coming this fall. The company's flagship iPhone 18 lineup will go ultra-premium this fall, dropping the base model iPhone 18 that is rumoured to arrive in early 2027 instead. That is a notable shift for a company that usually launches every tier at the same time. It suggests Apple sees its high-end models as the real draw and is willing to let the entry-level version wait nearly a year and a half.
The rest of the lineup is broad.
Two new Apple Watch models are expected this year: the Apple Watch Ultra 4 and the Apple Watch Series 12. The Mac line has already seen updates with the new MacBook Neo, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air models recently launched. Soon Apple's desktops are due for updates ahead of more high-end MacBook introductions.
Two more iPads are expected before 2026 ends: an iPad mini with OLED and a new base-model iPad. And Apple has big plans to expand its Home product line, but it has reportedly been waiting on Siri AI to arrive first.
IPHON 18: ULTRA-PREMIUM ONLY FOR NOW
The decision to launch only the high-end iPhone 18 models this fall and push the base model to early 2027 is the most consequential detail in the fall roadmap. It effectively splits the lineup across two calendar years. The flagship iPhone 18 models will land this fall, while buyers who want a standard iPhone 18 will have to wait until early 2027.
This is not unprecedented. Apple has staggered iPhone releases before, most notably with the iPhone XR arriving after the iPhone XS. But a gap of more than a year between the top-tier and the entry-tier is unusual.
It signals that Apple believes the early adopters who buy the flagships are the core of the fall selling season, and that the base model serves a different, more price-sensitive customer who can wait. The risk is that those customers defect to Android or to a discounted iPhone 17 in the meantime.
The strategy also puts extra pressure on the flagship models to deliver. They need to be compelling enough to drive the entire fall quarter, and they need to justify the price jump. If the base model is delayed, the flagship line carries the whole weight of the iPhone launch narrative.
APPLE WATCH, MAC LINE UP & MORE
Two new Apple Watch models are slated for this fall: the Apple Watch Ultra 4 and the Apple Watch Series 12. Both are expected to launch alongside the iPhone later this year.
It is a big year for the Mac. Apple recently launched the MacBook Neo, along with new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models. The Neo is a new entry point in the laptop lineup, possibly positioned between the Air and the Pro or as an ultra-thin alternative. The refreshed Pro and Air bring the latest Apple silicon and likely some design tweaks.
Now the desktops are due for updates. The Mac mini, iMac, and Mac Pro have not been updated in a while. The fall window is a good time for Apple to close the gap between laptop and desktop performance.
